International Comparisons in Energy Utilization

Dale Weber’s Principles of Engineering class is completing a unit in which they learn about the interconnectedness of energy, the environment and technology. In small groups, the students selected a country and used the internet to find the role of energy in the country’s overall economy. They then looked into energy-focused treaties, pacts and international organizations the country has entered. After researching the country’s improved use of natural resources and green technology, the student groups estimated changes in the country’s energy trade position. The students also performed patent searches on modern energy technology relevant to the country. The culminating activity employed the students’ inquiry and research skills by having them pose and research three questions about their chosen country, energy and technology.  They then shared their findings through PowerPoint presentations.
