Navigation by GPS

In Peter O’Brien’s earth science classes, they completed a unit on measurement by learning how a GPS works and how to use the information it gives. Students were given a hand-held GPS device and then followed a pre-defined path around the high school campus. The students learned about latitude and longitude, elevation and calculating the distance between two points. They also learned how to record data and use it to calculate trip distance. The most important lesson learned was the value of teamwork. The students helped each other and worked together to complete the task at handpeters clas 2.
