Courses at RPI by Jon Price

ERTH-1010/1100 Planet Earth I/Geology I
Provides a broad overview of the Earth's interior, concentrating on science's current view of the solid earth. Considers the nature and formation of solid materials (minerals and rocks), and their deformation, movement, and evolution through time.
ERTH-1030 Natural Sciences I
Covers the essentials of physics, chemistry, and astronomy and attempts to integrate these fields in order to view nature through the prism of science. I also try to highlight newsworthy items in these topics to underscore the intersections of science and society.
ERTH-1040 Natural Sciences II
Covers the essentials of geology, meteorology, biology and environmental science and attempts to integrate these fields in order to view nature through the prism of science, much like the previous course. I also try to highlight newsworthy items in these topics to underscore the intersections of science and society.
ERTH-2330 Earth Materials
Covers crystallography, systematic mineralogy, and the general nature of mineral aggregates (rocks). I emphasize laboratory exploration of minerals and rocks, both at the macro and microscopic scales.

ERTH-2620 Current Topics in Earth Science
follows the Earth Sciences colloquium series. Participants attend the weekly presentations and summarize the material in their own words.

ERTH-6940 Controversies in Geology
examines several key turning points in the study of the earth and their impact on modern geologic investigation. I emphasize how the scientific process has evolved in the last 300 years. The class concludes with an investigation of several modern controversies.
