Electro- and Photoproduction of Meson and Baryon Resonances

These lectures cover various fundamentals for understanding the analysis of hadronic resonances. Particular application is paid to photoproduction of baryon resonances, but other material is used as motivational and educational tools. The lectures are organized as follows:

1. Wednesday, May 27 (Two hours)
   • Overview
   • The concept of "resonance"
   • Analysis of the pion form factor (timelike region)
2. Thursday, May 28 (One hour; may spill over to Friday)
   • The quark model
   • Excited states of hadrons
3. Friday, May 29 (Two hours)
   • Baryon resonances: The P33(1232) as an example
   • Photoproduction amplitudes
   • Other topics, including multibody final states

Most of the transparencies are available as a single file, in either pdf or gzipped ps format. Some figures are copied out of the literature, and the references are included in the large file. Some other figures (all ps files) are:

• The pi+ photoproduction cross section
• Resonance in an LCR circuit
• The pion form factor analyzed
• Angular distribution of pi+p elastic scattering
• Angular distributions for pion photoproduction
• The E1+/M1+ ratio for the P33(1232) at high Q2

Two of the assignments involve fitting some data with PAW. You can pick up the data and kumac files here.
