Dr. Satish Nambisan is a globally-recognized researcher and thought-leader in the areas of innovation management, technological entrepreneurship, and technology strategy. He has done pioneering research work in the areas of network-centric (collaborative) innovation in private, public, and nonprofit sectors; customer co-innovation and value co-creation; and the role of information technology (IT) in facilitating innovation. His research publications have appeared (or are forthcoming) in several premier management journals including Management Science, Organization Science, Academy of Management Review, Harvard Business Review, MIT Sloan Management Review, and Stanford Social Innovation Review.

 

His first book The Global Brain: Your Roadmap for Innovating Faster and Smarter in a Networked World was published by Wharton School Publishing in October 2007. 

 

His second book Information Technology and Product Development will be published by Springer in December 2009.

 

He is an associate professor of technology management & strategy in the Lally School of Management at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He also holds joint appointment with the IT Program in the School of Science at RPI. Previously, he was the Director of the Phd Program at the Lally School.

 

He obtained his Ph.D. in Business Administration from Syracuse University (NY) and his MBA from XLRI (Jamshedpur, India).

 

During the year 2005-2006 he was a Visiting Research Faculty at the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University and was affiliated with the Center for Research in Technology & Innovation at Kellogg. He has also held visiting appointment at the Institute for Entrepreneurship & Innovation, Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration, Vienna, Austria.

 

His research has been supported by grants from several institutions and centers including the IBM Center for the Business of Government, NSF-affiliated Center for Innovation Management Studies (Raleigh), the Snyder Center for Innovation Management (Syracuse University), the National University of Singapore, and the Broadbent Entrepreneurship Research grant. He was selected as an Ernst & Young ICIS Doctoral Consortium Fellow in 1996.

 

Dr. Nambisan was recently honored by his alma mater Syracuse University with the 2006 Whitman Ph.D. Distinguished Alumni Award.

 

He speaks, consults, and conducts executive education both domestically and internationally in the areas of innovation management, technological entrepreneurship and management, software development, and product development. He has delivered keynote addresses and thought-leadership presentations in the area of innovation management at various conferences and organizations. His clients include Microsoft, IBM, 3M, P&G, SAP, Sharp Laboratories, Singapore Telecom, Federal Reserve Bank, ASAP & The Center, and Philadelphia Science Center.

 

Prior to joining the academia, Dr. Nambisan held executive positions at consumer-products giant Unilever Plc. in Mumbai, India. He is a member of several professional associations including the Academy of Management, Strategic Management Society, and the Product Development Management Association. He is also an invited board member of the Technology Management Education Association (TMEDA).

 

He lives in Albany with his wife Priya Nambisan and twin sons, Ashok and Bharat.
