It is essential that you learn the simplex algorithm, understand the meaning of a tableau, and the concept of a simplex direction and steplength.
To reinforce these concepts, you may take a quiz between Tuesday October 14 and Thursday October 16. The quiz will consist of one of questions 1-3 from Exam 1, with the numbers changed. The three parts of the question will be identical to the corresponding question on the exam. You will have 20 minutes to complete the quiz. You cannot bring any notes or books to the exam. You cannot bring a calculator or computer. The quiz can be collected from the secretaries in Amos Eaton 301, between 8am and 4.30pm.
Solutions to the exam are available from the course webpage at http://www.rpi.edu/~mitchj/matp4700.
The quiz will be worth up to one half of the points you lost on Exam 1, after the first 25 lost points.
The score on the quiz will then be added to your exam score.
For example, if you scored 58% on Exam 1 then your exam score can increase
by up to
points.
I will be out of town through Wednesday of next week, so office hours are cancelled next week.
