Office hours
The teaching assistants will hold office hours at the following times:
- Andrew Gronosky: Monday 5-7pm, JEC3207
- Eric Rose: Thursday 4-6pm, Amos Eaton 4th floor open area.
- Chris Whiting: Tuesday 3:30-5:30pm, Amos Eaton 4th floor open area.
If the above times are not convenient, do not hesitate to contact
your TA and make an individual appointment.
This can be done in one of four ways:
- speak with him during recitation or lab.
- send an email message to one of {gronoa, rosee, whitic}
- stop by his office in Amos Eaton
(AE433 for Chris; AE317 for Andrew and Eric)
- leave a note in his mailbox in AE301
-
About your TA
Your Math 2 TA will:
- review and clarify concepts covered in class
- work lots of example problems
- conduct the Thursday Maple lab sessions
- help you with lab assignments
- guide you in your preparation for exams, and hopefully,
- help generate within you some interest for mathematics.
Each section will have a recitation on Tuesday and a computer lab on
Thursday each week.

Computer labs
Guidelines
- Generally, a lab will be assigned each Wednesday, at the end
of class, and a report will be due the following Tuesday.
You can either submit it to your TA in recitation, or leave it
in his mailbox in AE301 before 5pm.
Note: AE301 is locked after 5pm.
- Each lab report must include a printout of your Maple session,
with your name and section number.
- Extraneous portions of your MAPLE session must be crossed out
with pen or pencil before handing it in.
- If required, paper and pencil calculations must be included
with your lab report.
- All plots should be included within the worksheet, and must be
labelled.
- Your report should be thorough and clear. You are more likely
to receive full credit if the grader does not have to spend time attempting to
decide what you were trying to say and do!
Include helpful comments in your printouts.
Late policy
- 10% will be deducted for each day late, unless you contact
your TA in advance and he is sympathetic to your excuse.
- DO NOT LEAVE YOUR LAB REPORT FOR THE LAST MINUTE!
Periodic problems with workstations should be expected
and are not considered valid excuses for lateness.
Collaboration
- You are not only allowed, but encouraged, to work in pairs.
If you do so, hand in one report, with both people's names
on it.
- It is possible for you to share files
with your lab partner. (See the file ~siegmw/public/m2/sharing_files)
- You and your partner may talk with other students,
but it is not acceptable to copy all or part of
lab solutions from another student, whether or not that person
is currently enrolled in the course.
It is also a violation to leave labs in public places
on the computer such as your public directory.

Use of calculators
Calculators are permitted during quizzes and exams.
-
Grade appeals
There will be several people involved in grading the labs, quizzes,
and tests, and we will make every effort to be thorough, fair, and consistent
in grading. If you think we have overlooked something on a computer project,
quiz or test, you should discuss it with one of your instructors.
In most cases, before a grade is changed, we will ask you to submit in writing
the reasons you think the grade was incorrect or unfair.
Grade appeals must be submitted within one week from the time the test, quiz,
or lab is returned in class.
-
Makeup policy on quizzes and exams
A missed quiz or test leads to a grade of zero and cannot be made up,
except when the student has made prior arrangements with his or her instructor,
or is too ill to come to class.
