AIChE, or the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, is a professional organization that provides leadership and support to more than 50,000 members, both professional and student, worldwide. Members participate in conferences, receive career advice, and network with professionals in order to enrich their chemical engineering experience!

The organization is split into regions throughout the country.

Members participate on the regional and national level. Conferences are the prefered method of presenting current technologies and breakthroughs in the chemical engineering field and provide a unique opportunity for professionals and students to network. Major conferences are held in each region, and culiminate to the national annual conference. A typical student conference includes events such as:

  • National Paper Competition
  • Undergraduate Poster Competition
  • Career Guidance Sessions
  • Student Awards Brunch
  • Chem-E-Car Competition
  • Graduate School Fair and Information Sessions
  • Professional Speakers
  • Student-led Workshops

AIChE also provides career and post-undergraduate education advice to current students. Information on accredited graduate school programs, companies that hire chemical engineers, salaries according to field, and projected employment statistics are compiled every year and are made available to students.

Employment and advancement opportunites are made available to students though the local chapters and the national organization. On the local level, chapters often put together "resume books." These compliations of student resumes are given to companies at events such as career fairs and information sessions. Company representatives are often invited as well to speak with students in an intimate environment. Nationally, AIChE compiles resumes and job listings in an online database for professionals and students to search through.
