At WRPI, there is a lot of things to do that deal with the equipment used in the station. Primarily electrical engineering majors take on the task of dealing with technical issues or just doing work to make things better.
Broadcast Equipment - The broadcast equipment, such as microphones, CD players, the console, and other equipment used to carry the audio signal to air, needs to be in working condition at all times. A lot of the work done on this equipment might involve soldering, wire crimping, and some other "fine detail" work. This is heaven for an electronics geek.
Recording Studio - The recording / live-to-air studio where bands can perform live takes a lot of work. Putting a band on the air can be fun and takes some talent. Connections need to be made the right way so that the sound of the band is right (also referred to as "patching"). It doesn't necessarily take an electrical engineer to do this, but one must understand some electronics principles in order to be "fluent" in doing this.
In addition, improvements can constantly be made to the current studios. WRPI has very recently gone under a renovation where the tw studios were completely rebuilt. Opportunities like this may come up, and there is a lot of electrical work that can be done in situations like that.
