There will be three in class, hour-long exams, given at the following dates:
| Exam 1 | October 4, 2004 |
| Exam 2 | November 11, 2004 |
| Exam 3 | Most probably during the week of December 6-10, 2004 |
There will also be a mandatory three-hour final exam during the finals period.
Copying from fellow students' work during an exam is a breach of academic integrity, and will not be tolerated.
Only students with notes from the Dean of Students will be allowed to take makeup exams.
A list of suggested homework problems can be found here. These problems should be helpful in preparing for the exams. Moreover, to help you check your knowledge, occasional quizzes will be given during the recitations, and graded. The exact dates of the quizzes will be announced by the teaching assistants at the recitations.
A link to sample exams can be found here.
I am expecting to use the following grading rules: Each of the three exams will constitute 1/3 of your pre-final exam grade.
The lowest exam grade will be automatically replaced by the total quiz score, if the latter is higher.
The grade on the final exam will count for 100% of the quiz/exam/final grade if you do better on the final exam than on the quizzes/exams, and will count for 20% of the grade if you do worse.
The overall quiz/exam/final grade cutoffs will be no stricter than
| A | B | C | D | F |
| 90-100 | 80-90 | 70-80 | 60-70 | < 60 |
and may end up being looser, but I won't know where exactly they will be until the very end.
According to the departmental rules, the overall course grade will be the lower of the quiz/exam/final grade and the gateway exam grade.
