An Introduction to
Historic Armenian Architecture

Professor Emeritus of the School of Engineering at Rensselaer
Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. Dr. Parsegian was also Chairman
of the Armenian Educational Council and Director of the
Armenian Architecture Photographic Archives Project (AA).

have emerged and disappeared in the course of human history, most of them
becoming victims of invading armies that destroyed cities and civilizations
along the way.
Destructive invasions came
repeatedly to the Armenian people,whose homeland in what is now Eastern
Turkey and Trans Caucasia was a crossroad for competing empires pressing
from all sides.
Nevertheless, the people
managed to retain their ethnic identity because in the course of the three
millenia of their history, after each destruction, there came a period
of revival of their way of life and their creativity"
