Dear fellow ISGEmers,
As you know from Ubi's latest message, the Second International Congress of Ethnomathematics
(II-CIEM, the Portuguese abbreviation) will be in Ouro Preto, Brazil, from 4 to 7 August
2002. The scientific program promises to be quite stimulating.
Ouro Preto is a historic and
extraordinarily beautiful city in the state of Minas Gerais and since 1980 has
had the UN designation as a Cultural Patrimony of
Humanity. Consequently, it has numerous important sites to visit
and experience.
You may also know that I am the ISGEm-NA representative to
the II-CIEM organizing committee and, as such, want to urge everyone to mark their calendars, think about participating actively, and
organize your students to participate and attend. I suspect that
we all agree that it's important that we have a strong presence at the meeting
and that we encourage new and budding ethnomathematicians to experience this
exciting and historic international congress.
The II-CIEM has a Web page: http://www.II-CIEM.ufop.br/
It's under construction but you can visit it and link to see the
beautiful location of the conference at the Federal University of Ouro Preto (o Parque Metalúrgico - Centro De Convenções Da Universidade
Federal De Ouro Preto).
Soon I will have promotional
materials (posters and so on) that I can send to those interested in
using them to promote the Second International Congress of Ethnomathematics.
If you are so interested, just send me an email with name and snail-mail
address and after I receive the materials I will mail them out to you.
