Re:Ethnomathematics Course through CCSA

I am writing to you because you teach students who might well be interested in taking Ethnomathematics this summer as an overseas adventure. We are offering the course in New Zealand and Australia through CCSA, Cooperative Center for Study Abroad.

The course may well fulfill a liberal arts mathematics requirement at your school.I would be happy to speak with anyone regarding the course and what we study and learn. The background mathematical understanding expected is minimal. The students should be able to use formulas and recognize basic geometric figures. All high school graduates have the necessary knowledge for the course. The one time I taught the course at Walsh I had students saying the equivalent of “I actually enjoyed this class and I don’t believe I am using the words ‘enjoyed’ and ‘mathematics’ in the same sentence.” A real bonus is the additional appreciation of other cultures.

This is a golden opportunity for students to travel to the other side of the world and broaden their view of the world at the same time.It is expensive (over $5000).But such an opportunity doesn’t come along every day.Maybe a caring relative of means is looking for a very nice present for someone on your campus.
