Matoran of Voya Nui

A few hundred Matoran inhabited Voya Nui when the Piraka arrived. They were smaller and weaker than the Matoran of Metru Nui, but they carried weapons to defend themselves with. The Matoran struggled to survive on Voya Nui's rocky terrain, perpetually short of water. When the Piraka arrived, they were welcomed as Toa come to save the Matoran. But the Piraka did little to solve Voya Nui's problems. They set the Matoran to work building a temple and draining lava from Mt. Valmai. The Matoran eventually became suspicious of the Piraka's un-Toalike behavior. But before they could act, the Piraka attacked their settlement and enslaved all but six with zamor spheres. Now only these six are left to resist the rule of the Piraka.

Balta

Balta is the engineer among the Matoran resistance. He is able to take whatever materials are at hand and craft a weapon for the purpose. Balta's twin repellers can block any force used against him and reflect it back at his attacker. A good friend of Garan's, he serves as second in command.

Garan

Garan leads the resistance against the Piraka. He carries pulse generators, which produce shockwaves that become stronger the further they travel. Garan is an expert tactician, and planned many successful sneak attacks on the Piraka. His wisdom has often kept the Matoran out of danger.

Dalu

Dalu is the only resistance member trained as a warrior. She carries charger tools which can temporarily enhance an attribute of an opponent. For example, she once enhanced Avak's speed, causing him to move so quickly that he tripped. However, using these tools drains Dalu's energy. If she uses them too much, she will weaken, pass out, and possibly die.

Velika

Quiet and patient, Velika is often the voice of wisdom among the resistance. He usually speaks in riddles, which Balta understands best. This can annoy the other Matoran, especially Kazi. But Velika's odd way of viewing events has helped the Matoran understand the mystery of the Piraka's actions. His tools, called power carvers, will shear through most substances on Voya Nui. Velika is also an inventor, but he generally builds complicated equipment instead of Balta's weapons.

Piruk

Piruk is good at moving quietly, so the resistance often uses him to spy on the Piraka. He has discovered valuable information this way, though he is not a courageous being and is very frightened of the Piraka. Piruk's shredder claws enable him to cut through solid objects. He has a habit of sharpening these claws against each other when nervous.

Kazi

Kazi, like Velika, is smart and insightful, but he has a completely different way of thinking and speaking. He hates wasting time trying to figure out Velika's riddles, and is often sarcastic. By knocking his echo forks together, he can attack the Piraka with a sonic shockwave. Kazi was the only Matoran to know of the existence of Axonn before the arrival of the Piraka.
