Vahki

The Vahki are mechanical beings responsible for keeping order in Metru Nui and protecting the Matoran. There are six types of Vahki, one to patrol each metru. They enforce laws rigidly, thoroughly pacifying any Matoran who causes disturbance. Vahki are directly under the control of Turaga Dume and Turaga Dume alone.

History

The Vahki were originally designed by Nuparu as a replacement for the Kralhi, Metru Nui's previous class of order enforcers. They have served the City of Legends for several centuries. Po-Matoran workers build new Vahki of all types and send them to the proper metru to begin operations.

Biography

Nuurakh

This class of Vahki patrols the Ta-Metru area. Their favorite method of dealing with trouble is the ambush. Quick and skillful, the Nuurakh surround their target and neutralize it with a blast from a Staff of Command. These stun blasts place a single overriding directive in the victim's mind. Until the effect wears off, the victim will spend all its energy fulfilling this task. For a Matoran, the command would most likely be "Return to work."

Bordakh

Patrollers of the canals of Ga-Metru, the Bordakh love the chase. When faced with a lawbreaker who runs, their efficient pursuit groups follow as long as possible, not making the capture until they have no choice. These Vahki units carry Staffs of Loyalty, which make their targets loyal servants of Metru Nui, peace, and order. A common use of these staffs is to make Matoran criminals betray their accomplices to the Vahki.

Rorzakh

The Rorzakh were the first class of Vahki to be designed, as they were intended for Nuparu's home of Onu-Metru. This is the worst type for a lawbreaker to find in pursuit; they never give up the hunt, regardless of difficulty or danger. The Rorzakh receive the information collected by the eyes and ears of anyone hit with their Staffs of Presence, turning the victim into a Vahki spy. This is an effective method of finding fugitives in the labyrinthine passages of the Archives.

Zadakh

Zadakh patrol the open areas of Po-Metru. They attack quickly and fiercely, determined to "pacify" the intended target. Their Staffs of Suggestion make a victim's mind easily influenced and prone to follow suggestions without argument.

Vorzakh

The Matoran of Le-Metru are impatient and fond of speed. The Vahki of that district share their traits. The Vorzakh strategy is simple: head for the target as quickly as possible, and smash anything in the way, whether chutes, vehicles, or buildings. Their destructive enthusiasm is a source of trouble in the district, and their Staffs of Erasing are feared. These staffs temporarily remove mental functions and leave Matoran in a state similar to sleepwalking.

Keerakh

The Vahki of Ko-Metru value careful thought and planning. Keerakh can determine exactly where a fugitive is headed. They then make sure to reach that place first and prepare a trap. When they do catch the target, their Staffs of Confusion distort its sense of place and time, usually causing it to believe it is still in the place it was several hours ago.

Weaponry

The Vahki stun staffs are powerful and fearsome to foes, but they are designed not to destroy physical objects or cause lasting harm to Matoran. The order enforcement units also carry Kanoka disks, which can be used as weapons if necessary. Vahki can shift into quadrupedal mode by using their staffs as front legs, they are excellent climbers, and they have the ability to levitate. The Chief Archivist believes flight required a great amount of energy, as the Vahki rarely attempted it unless absolutely necessary.

Kralhi

Before the Vahki came into service, Metru Nui was patrolled by several dozen robotic beings called Kralhi. These machines were quadrupedal and posessed long scorpionlike tails which launched energy bubbles. The bubbles drained energy from their targets into the Kralhi, theoretically making them too weak to cause further trouble. In practice, this left Matoran too weak to do any work for several days, not a desirable effect for enforcers trying to get lazy Matoran back to their jobs. Kralhi were also noisy and inefficient, so they were quickly replaced when Nuparu designed the Vahki. But some of the Kralhi apparently had enough intelligence to resist being turned off. What became of these units was uncertain; the Matoran paid little attention once the Vahki drove them into hiding. They were rediscovered in the time of the Toa Metru.
