Rahi of Metru Nui

Many species of Rahi have appeared in Metru Nui over the centuries, most of them fleeing from the Visorak horde. The Matoran and Vahki captured as many Rahi as possible, and placedthem in the Onu-Metru Archives. They were held securely in stasis tubes with their life processes slowed to a halt- until a cataclysmic bioquake shattered the tubes and set the captives free. The Rahi now roam the City of Legends unhindered by the sleeping Matoran and the rapidly failing Vahki squads, but the Visorak are rapidly decreasing their numbers. The Rahaga are working from the shadows to catch the Rahi and transport them to places of safety, but their work is difficult and dangerous.

The total number of species inhabiting Metru Nui can only be guessed at. This exhibit only displays some of the more important Rahi.

Keetongu

Keetongu

According to legend, this powerful Rahi was native to an island south of Metru Nui, and is the only remaining member of his species. He is said to have gone into hiding in Metru Nui, waiting for the time when he will be needed against the Visorak. The Rahaga came to Metru Nui partly in order to find him, though not all of them believe the legends are true. Keetongu carries a heavy blade claw which can reverse the effects of Visorak venom. His shield array can rotate at high speed, absorb Rhotuka fired at him, and channel the energy into his own Rhotuka spinner. In addition, his physical strength is on a level with that of Makuta himself. Sidorak and Roodaka should hope this menace is only a myth.

Gukko Birds

This species commonly nested high in the mechanical tangles built in Le-Metru. Fast and powerful, but difficult to tame, they were rarely of use to the Matoran. Kualus, however, was able to learn their language and occasionally ride them. He and Nuju once escaped an ambush of Visorak in this way.

Tahtorak

These giant creatures come from the same island as Keetongu. They are predators who travel from island to island eating everything they can digest. Tahtorak are usually green and brown, with silver fins about the head. They posess tremendous strength, enough to tear down chutes and buildings. Their front feet are clawed, and their heavy tails can be used like clubs. One member of this species mysteriously appeared in Metru Nui. He was discovered by the Toa Metru beneath the maintenance tunnels, and they encountered him several times more during their career as Toa. It is the belief of the Chief Archivist that this creature's presence in Metru Nui was in some way due to Brutaka's Mask of Dimensional Travel.

Lava Eels

Native to Ta-Metru, these serpentine Rahi lived in the hottest places they could find. When irritated, their skins could generate heat, enough to melt rock. Matoran sometimes tried to keep lava eels, but they always proved to be too dangerous.

Krahka

It is impossible to give a description of these Rahi, because they are shape-shifters. They can take on the form and abilities of any being they have seen. The species' home island was invaded by Visorak, and the only known surviving specimen was a female who hid in the maintenance tunnels beneath the Onu-Metru Archives. The Toa Metru encountered her on a mission in the Archives, and later as Hordika.
