Toa Metru
History
In the time before time, the city of Metru Nui was a tranquil place, where Matoran worked in peace and safety. But its lone protector, Lhikan, Toa of Fire, knew that danger laid ahead. To meet the danger, Lhikan chose six Matoran, one from each metru, and gifted them with the powers of Toa. Now these six Toa Metru must stop the threat of the Morbuzakh vines, find the Great Disks, and face other dangers lurking in the shadows of Metru Nui.
Biography
Toa Vakama
As a Matoran, Vakama worked as a mask maker, one of the best in Metru Nui. Even then, he was gifted with strange visions. It was these visions which sent the Toa Metru on their quest for the legendary Great Disks. Vakama has taken the leadership of the Toa, somewhat unwillingly. Often lacking confidence, he is unsure if he can truly be a hero of Metru Nui.
Vakama wields the elemental power of fire. He carries a Kanoka disk launcher, which can attach to his back and function as a rocket pack. His mask is the Kanohi Huna, the Great Mask of Concealment, which can grant him invisibility.
Toa Nokama
Nokama once taught translation to Matoran in Ga-Metru. Now she tries to teach wisdom to her brother Toa, keeping them unified and guiding Vakama to his destiny as their leader. Her hydro blades help her swim quickly through Metru Nui's protodermis canals, and her Mask of Translation lets her read ancient writings or even speak the languages of Rahi.
Toa Whenua
While still a Matoran, Whenua worked as an archivist, cataloging the artifacts of Metru Nui's past. Even as a Toa, he still understands the need to remember the past. His knowledge of the Archives and the Rahi of Metru Nui has often aided the Toa.
Using his twin earthshock drills, Whenua can tunnel at high speeds or simply dig through any obstacle. He wears Kanohi Ruru, the Mask of Night Vision, which can cast a beam of light when the Toa find themselves in the dark.
Toa Onewa
Onewa worked as a carver in Po-Metru before becoming a Toa. Now he defends Metru Nui with his power over stone. His proto pitons, which can bite into solid rock, make useful climbing tools. His Kanohi Komau gives him the power of mind control. Onewa is a little short on the Unity virtue, and often does not get along well with his teammates. In particular, he does not like being guided by Vakama's visions, which he attributes to "some fire-spitter having stood in front of his forge too long and cooked his head."
Toa Matau
Matau was once a test vehicle driver, until a Toa stone changed his life forever. He is excited about becoming a "Toa-hero", and does not take his duty as seriously as some of the others. As Toa of Air, he carries twin aero slicers, which can attach to his back and function as wings. His Mask of Illusion allows him to shapeshift, an ability that has been useful several times. Matau is very confident of his ability as a Toa. This makes him even more reckless than he was as a test driver.
Toa Nuju
Nuju's original occupation was that of a Ko-Matoran scholar. He worked in a Knowledge Tower, studying the stars with a huge telescope. As a Toa, he still always keeps the future in mind with his wise foresight. Nuju carries two crystal spike tools, which can be used for climbing ice walls as well as for focusing his elemental ice power. His mask is the Kanohi Matatu, the Great Mask of Telekinesis.
Weaponry
Each Toa Metru wields an elemental power, usually using Toa tools as a focus. Most of the Metru carry two identical tools, but Vakama uses a single disk launcher. The Toa Metru wear Great Kanohi versions of the same Noble Masks they would wear as Turaga, though they must learn how to use these mask powers.
