Mask of Life
According to legend, the Kanohi Ignika was made by the Great Beings and hidden in the lava chambers of Mt. Valmai on Voya Nui, roughly 100,000 years before the time of the Toa Nuva. It is a mask of incredible power, probably the most powerful that has yet appeared in Bionicle. It is apparently capable of healing any living being- or killing it. The Toa Nuva have come to Voya Nui to retrieve the mask and use it to save the Great Spirit Mata Nui. If they fail, the Great Spirit will die, and the universe will dissolve in chaos. But there are other beings after the Mask of Life. The villainous Piraka have come to steal it and hold it for ransom. The fate of the entire Bionicle world is at stake as Toa and Piraka race for the mask.
Guardians of the Mask
An object as powerful as the Mask of Life cannot be left unprotected. Two hulking beings range of Voya Nui, unknown to the Matoran. Members of the mysterious Order of Mata Nui, they were sent to the island to defend the mask against thieves like the Piraka. But one of them has other ideas...
In addition, other beings guard the underground passage which leads to the Chamber of the Mask.
Axonn
This protector of Voya Nui wields a huge double-bladed battleaxe which can fire beams of pure energy. Exactly what he is capable of is unknown, but he was able to cut through solid rock, heal Gali Nuva of insanity, and batter two Piraka single-handed. Using his Kanohi Roden, the Great Mask of Truth, Axonn can see any illusion as it truly is.
Brutaka
Once a servant of Mata Nui's will, this mighty being lost faith in the Great Spirit and became evil. He allied with the Piraka, intending to take the Mask of Life from them if they found it. Brutaka carries a giant double sword, which he once used to overcome the six Toa Nuva with one blow. His mask is Kanohi Olmak, the Mask of Dimensional Gates, which can teleport objects or move them into another dimension.
Umbra
Umbra lurks on the stairway to the Chamber of the Mask, waiting for anyone foolish enough to pass. He posesses great speed, due to the skatelike wheels on his feet. His staff fires laser beams and Rhotuka, and he can transform into a deadly beam of light. With him are giant protodites called protodax. Umbra allows these vicious creatures to destroy any Rahi which wander down to his guard post.
Irnakk
Not even the Piraka are immune to fear. Along the road to the Mask of Life, an unknown power brought into existence the most frightening being they could imagine. That being was Irnakk, a legendary monster who looks like an enormous golden Piraka. His zamor spheres bring into existence the greatest fear of anyone they hit. He also has the power to transform enemies into thoughts and absorb them into his mind.
Vezon and Fenrakk
In the Chamber of the Mask itself lurks the mysterious seventh Piraka, Vezon, and a giant spider called Fenrakk. Vezon reached the chamber before the other Piraka arrived on Voya Nui. When he touched the Mask of Life, its power fused him to Fenrakk's back, and the mask fused to the back of his head. He now serves the mask as its final guardian. Vezon can absorb the motion of any blow struck against him and add it to his own strength. His eyebeams project visions of the future, which warn him of the approach of enemies. He carries the Staff of Fusion, which can fuse objects together or split them apart. Along with Fenrakk's snapping jaws and formidable strength, neither Piraka nor Toa will find it easy to retrieve the mask.
Kardas Dragon
When the Toa Inika came to the Chamber of the Mask, they fought Vezon and Fenrakk, and knocked the guardians into the surrounding lava pools. But creatures cursed to serve the Mask of Life cannot die so easily. When they emerged, Fenrakk had been transformed into the Kardas Dragon, a gigantic creature with even more strength. Kardas can create energy and release it in devastating explosions. He and Vezon may prove to be the last foe the Inika will ever face.
