Travis's Home Page

"As a dreamer of dreams and a traveling man, I have chalked up many a mile"

"So who is this Travis guy and why should I look at his home page?"

As far as who I am: I'm a grad student (more or less) working on my M.S. in IME (Industrial & Management Engineering) at RPI. I am also working at a small consulting firm in Ann Arbor, MI called The Model Builders. Mostly what we do are simulations (production lines, call centers, etc.).

A couple of summers ago ('97), I worked in Red Bank, NJ at a company called Globespan Semiconductor, Inc., which has since gone public (GSPN). <sigh> No stock options for me though...) During the fall '96 semester I was on co-op with GE in Fitchburg, MA. (If you really must know, I helped to redesign a line which manufactures valves, stems, and bushings for steam turbine engines. (In theory...I don't think it was ever implemented and they've since shut down the plant. NOt exactly a glowing endorsement, huh? Mai pen rai.))

When I was still on campus at RPI, I was a member of W2SZ (where was, at various times, the club President, Vice-President and Secretary), a member of the Rensselaer Aeronautical Federation, and a Teaching Assistant for Operations Research Methods I & II. I'm also a brother of Sigma Phi Epsilon. In addition, I was the Apartment Manager in the RAHPs for two and a half years, but no more.

I tend to spend more time on extracurricular projects than on my classwork. (My grades prove it.) On the other hand I probably learned more in one project outside of class than I did in an entire semester of courses. (I just have to convince employers of this.)

I like to collect sound files and occasionally I mess around with ray-tracing and programming, but nothing too fancy. I also do the whole photography thing, but I haven't done much recently.

If, for some bizarre, twisted reason, you want to know more about me, try my bio link, look at my musical tastes.

So what do I think is cool enough to deserve links? Check it out:

My Projects/Stuff/Etc.

My resume is now available online in beautiful html.

A text version of my resume is available here, just in case.

When I get around to it, I'm going to put up a page about some of my grad work here.

A few months ago, I bought a fish tank. Some information about my tank is available on it's own page.

A page of information about my time-lapse video project for my trip across the country this summer.

I have a page with some photographs I've taken (both with slide film that was transferred to a digital format and with my digital camera). Some of these pictures used to be on this page, but I got tired of having to wait for them to load. <sigh>

You can take a look at one of my ray-traced images. (I can provide the POV source code if you really want it.)

And here's the source for a somewhat cheesy C program I wrote for work. It was used to calculate the number of times a link between two workstations was used.

I've started a collection of engineering-related quotes. Suggestions for additions are welcomed.

Some (in my opinion) Cool Links

My high school, Admiral Farragut Academy , has a homepage run by another alumnus.

Yahoo is probably one of the best places to start surfing the web. Especially if you're not really sure quite what you're looking for.

If you have a really good idea of what you want to find, try Alta Vista. Just be warned, it'll turn up a lot of pages if you're not specific...

The incredibly cool and funny Dilbert comic strip.

A collection of space FAQs.

The Jimmy Buffet home page.

There's also a home page for the American Volksport Association which sponsors volksmarches (generally 10 km walks) across the country. They're kind of fun if you like walking/talking to other people. It's not a competition, so you can take your time and enjoy it.

The Movie Sounds Page is a great place to start looking for sound files.

A really cool record label I've run across is Green Linnet. They carry all sorts of celtic music. (I'd say Irish, but they also have some pretty cool stuff like The Tannahill Weavers and Wolfstone.)

I think the sport sounds pretty cool, so here's a biathlon home page

For no particular reason: The Ski Patrol Web
