Students who complete the Cognitive Systems Engineering Program will be uniquely positioned to work in the job market of the electronic, networked age, which puts an increasingly weaves together human and machine information processing. Cognitive Systems Engineers are in demand in growth technology areas such as network computing (including the Internet and World Wide Web), intelligent manufacturing systems, interactive learning and gaming, expert systems, virtual reality, and automated design. Students in the ECSE track will find employment in companies creating intelligent software and hardware for machine perception, recognition, and process control in commercial and military applications. Students in the CS track will have credentials for employment in companies that develop intelligent and interactive software for a variety of products, from web-based TVs to the latest, greatest browser. Students in the PPCS track will be qualified for software engineering positions as well, but will be qualified to deal also with problems related to cognitive ergonomics.
