Cognitive Systems Engineering

leading to degrees in:

The new program is designed for people who have an undergraduate degree in areas related to computation and/or cognition (e.g., computer science, electrical engineering, psychology, computer engineering, logic, math, etc.) and who wish to capitalize on the exploding demand for machine systems that interact smoothly with, and sometimes even simulate aspects of, humans. Such systems include robots, softbots, immobots, intelligent searchers and data miners, expert systems, browsers and other systems related to the Web, electronic gaming systems, inteligent tutoring systems, and virtual reality systems.



Jointly offered by the Departments of Electrical, Computer, and Systems Engineering (ECSE), Computer Science (CS), and Philosophy, Psychology & Cognitive Science (PPCS), the program involves 10 courses and can be completed in one academic year of full-time study. Part-time programs are also possible. Students typically take 5 courses each term for 2 academic semesters and have a culminating experience in the form of a significant software engineering project for the course Logic & Artificial Intelligence.
