Honors

1986: King-Sun Fu Award from the North American Fuzzy Information Processing Society (NAFIPS) for contributions to the field of fuzzy sets and approximate reasoning.

1989: Dushman Award from the General Electric Corporate Research and Development Center for his leadership role in the Reasoning with Uncertainty Module (RUM) project.

1993: Coolidge Fellowship Award from the General Electric Corporate Research and Development Center for overall technical accomplishments. As part of this fellowship, he undertook research on Soft Computing for ten months at the Instituto de Investigacion en Inteligencia Artificial (IIIA-CSIC), at the Campus of the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona, in Bellaterra, Spain.

1996: Fellow of the American Association for Artificial Intelligence (AAAI).

1999: Dushman Award from the General Electric Corporate Research and Development Center for his leadership role in developing diagnostics software tools for GE medical equipment.

2004: Fellow of the The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

2005: Fellow of the International Fuzzy Systems Association (IFSA).
