WHAT ABOUT?

Society, in general, seems to be almost indifferent to the "population problem". The U.S., for example, reneged on its commitment towards the Cairo Program of Action (based on the International Conference on Population and Development, Cairo, 1994). Did we hear uproar from Society? Naahh. Other countries are likewise not devoting resources towards population control. Maybe, there is really no problem? What does the society really know about the nature of this problem? A long slow line at the grocery, or heavy traffic in Manhattan. That's the problem, right?

Lucky for you, you know better. And out of the blue, Bill Gates calls you and say "I want to outdo that Turner guy and donate 2 Billion dollars towards a very worthy cause". He went on to say, "Because I am smarter, I won't just dump the money and walk away. I really want to make a difference. I want my money to fix the population problem. You know, tangible action that will alter the population momentum. Something measurable, like maybe use 2 billion dollars to make sure that we have 2 billion people less that projected by the UN in year 2050".

Bill Gates sounds very serious as he continued "I want YOU to tell me how to do it. I want something tangible, humane, and cognizant of socio-cultural differences amongst people worldwide. What should be our main point of attack?". His final words as he put the phone down was "Oh, I'm really quite busy, so could you cut the plan to 1-2 pages double spaced report so I could go over it quickly?"
