The information below is for instructors/designers who are NOT working on RSVP distance education course.
Generally, instructors are given 2 different accounts, a designer account and a student account. These accounts are generally only valid for one semester. So, just because you had a WebCT account in the past does not necessarily mean that you will currently have a valid WebCT account.
Your designer account:

instructor designer account is in the form of RCSid_des. (e.g. belld2_des)

try logging into your 'my WebCT' page with your designer id and password

If you have forgotten your designer account password or you are having problems logging in, email webct-support-l@lists.rpi.edu for assistance providing your name, RCS id, course title and course number .
Your student account:

the login id and password for your student account are identical to your RCS id and password. Try logging into your 'my WebCT' page at: http://webct.rpi.edu/webct/homearea/homearea

If you are having trouble logging in with your student id, find out if you have a WebCT global student id using the 'Rensselaer WebCT Student Account Utility' at: https://www.cis.rpi.edu/AFS/dept/arc/webct/cgi/WebCTAdmin.cgi
(you will need to login with your RCS id and password)
- If you already have a WebCT global student id, then you will
see a list of your WebCT courses
- If you don't have a WebCT global student id, then you can use
this utility to create one for yourself.
- If you already have a WebCT global student id, then you will
see a list of your WebCT courses

Once you have successfully set up your WebCT account, try logging in your 'my WebCT' page again at:
http://webct.rpi.edu/webct/homearea/homearea
If you are still having trouble logging in to your student WebCT account, it may be because you have not changed your RCS password within the last 9 months or so. If this is so, then you must go through the process of changing your password so that your id and password will propagate to the server which authenticates WebCT users.
- Go to the password change web page and change it: https://www.cis.rpi.edu/AFS/campus/rpi/simon/web/1.0/cgi-bin/change_pw.html
- You can 'change' it to what it currently is if you want to keep
the same password.
- After changing your password, be sure to close all browser windows
before attempting to login to WebCT again. This makes sure the
browser isn't still holding the old password.
- Note: the password change may take up to an hour before it propagates
across the network.

If you can successfully login to your 'my WebCT' page, but it does not list one of your courses there, then this problem can be remedied by logging in as a designer and adding your student WebCT Global ID (RCS ID) to the course.
. To add a student (who already has a WebCT global id) to your course do the following:
- Login as designer
- Select Control Panel > Manage Course >Add or Import Students
- In the Student's WebCT ID: field, type in the student's WebCT Global ID (RCS user id), e.g. belld2
- Click 'Add' - If the system responds with "Error: No such Global ID exists in the database," check the spelling of the student's WebCT global id (RCS user id).
- If the student's WebCT global id (RCS user id) continues to be rejected by the system, then email webct-support-l@lists.rpi.edu for assistance providing the course title, course number, student name and student RCS id.
