The United States government and New York State offer financial assistance to low income families in the area of rent, shelter, food, fuel, and medical costs. However, these programs are available only to citizens or permanent residents of the United States (holding an I-551 or "Green Card"). If you try to participate in federally funded programs, you will jeopardize your student status.

Children of international students have the right to attend the FREE public schools of the district in which they are living. For example, if you live in Troy, your children have the right to attend the schools (and programs) in the School District of Troy.
