Immigration Information

The following information is brief, incomplete, and subject to change. Therefore, we suggest that you also consult the International Services for Students and Scholars Office (ISSS) if you have any questions. ISSS keeps up to date on current regulations and has several handouts giving more complete information.

It is important to understand that the International Office is not a branch of the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS). The ISSS Office is, however, required to answer INS inquires regarding: address, telephone number, number of credit hours in which you are enrolled, field of study, initial attendance date, and expected graduation date. Information about your private life or activities discussed with ISSS staff is considered confidential, and is not given to any outside authority without your permission.

As an F-1 or J-1 student you are expected to be a full-time student who will not work without proper authorization. It is your responsibility to remain in good standing. If you have any questions about your status, consult immediately with the ISSS Office.
