Important Information

In late October, one of the RPI Employees Federal Credit Union desktop computers fell victim to a potentially malicious Internet virus.  Fortunately, there was nothing to indicate any account information was compromised by the virus or any member information disclosed other than email addresses.  Rensselaer IT staff did an extensive  forensic analysis of the infected computer and were able to outline the timeline of events for the infection and files it targeted.  Additionally, the Credit Union Board of Trustees is reviewing and updating its security plan and use of technology policies as a precaution and to lessen the likelihood of any recurrence of this sort of event.

The virus serves as a sobering reminder that the Internet is not completely safe.  While we believe your information held by the Credit Union is safe and reasonable protections are in place to keep it safe, you are advised to take a few precautions for your own piece of mind.  Change any passwords you use online.  Having different passwords for each different use is advisable, but at least use different passwords for anything tied to a financial account.  Update any security questions, too, and do not keep either your passwords or security questions stored on your computer—a successful hacker would likely find them. If there are specific questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us directly,Sandi Butcher, x8078.

Dividend Declared

The Board of Directors has authorized a dividend of 0.25%, 0.2502% APY, for all share balances for the quarter ending December 31, 2013.

Competitive Loan Rates

Spring will be coming fast and it is an excellent time to consider the many things you could or should be doing. If they require a few extra dollars up front, the Credit Union may be able to help.

We have the very popular Seasonal Special Loan, up to $1,500 for 12 months at 7%, and the equally popular Manager’s Special Loan, up to $3,000 for up to 18 months at just 7% to 8%!  (Not everyone will qualify for the lower rate.)  These loans are ideal for:

  • Debt consolidation. Get out from under all those expensive monthly credit card bills.  Reduce your interest rate and lower your monthly payment.
  • Home Improvement:  Time to preprare for the warm weather.
  • Vacation.  A few extra funds may be just the thing you need to take that vacation you have been waiting for.

Be sure to look over our rates on vehicle loans, too. Some of the interest rates quoted at the car dealers may sound too good to be true.  That is because they are.  Consider negotiating the sale price for the car without special dealer-financing, and you may find the bottom-line cost less with the loan through us. Vehicle rates as low as 1.99%!!

(All credit applications incur a $10.00 pass-through charge for processing a credit report.)
