Dr. Jackson—the first female African-American president to lead a national research university—comes to Rensselaer from a varied and prestigious academic and professional career, most recently as the Chairman of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and also as a university professor and research scientist.

The theme for the inauguration was "Honoring Tradition, Changing the World—Rensselaer in the 21st Century." The ceremony took place at 10 a.m. in the Houston Field House on the Rensselaer campus in Troy, N.Y.
