Lally School Conference Gathers Experts on Science and Technology in China
Government representatives, businesspeople, and top researchers in the areas of science and technology, management, public policy, education, and research and development in China shared their insights on the countrys role as a modern technology leader at a conference sponsored by Rensselaers Lally School Sept. 4 through 6.
The meeting, titled Chinas Emerging Technological Trajectory in the 21st Century, featured such prominent experts as Jin Xiaoming, minister-counselor of Science & Technology for the Embassy of the Peoples Republic of China; Fang Xin, professor with the Chinese Academy of Sciences Institute of Policy and Management; and Denis Fred Simon, dean of the Lally School, among others.

The event took place at the Rensselaerville Institute Conference Center in Rensselaerville, N.Y.
This gathering of international thought leaders really shed some light on Chinas influence on business and innovation in todays global economy, said Simon. The conference highlighted Chinas contributions in the areas of science and technology, and assessed its vital role in the coming years.
On Sept. 6, Simon along with Xiaoming of the Embassy of the Peoples Republic of China offered up his own expertise in a panel discussion of Chinas international science and technology relations. Rensselaer President Shirley Ann Jackson followed Simon with a lunchtime talk titled Developments in International S&T: Chinas Role and Impact.
Other topics covered at the conference include: telecommunications, technology, and Chinas modernization; the role of universities in Chinas science and technology development; and brain drain/brain gain and Chinas high-level human resources problems.
