Schanz joined Rensselaer in 2000 after serving Marist College as director of alumni affairs, executive director of the Marist Alumni Association, and adjunct lecturer in the School of Communications and the Arts. He has a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s of public administration, both from Marist College.

“During the past 13 months, Jeff served as acting director of alumni relations, a position that has showcased his leadership skills — in the Alumni Relations office, across the campus, and within the Rensselaer Alumni Association. All of us have come to appreciate Jeff’s unique combination of vision, talent, drive, and grace,” said David Haviland ’64, vice president for institute advancement.

At Rensselaer, Schanz has led the volunteer relations program to a place of national recognition, increased the number of alumni volunteers by 30 percent, earned two CASE Awards of Excellence, and designed a national conference with Stanford University on the future of alumni programs.

Schanz was selected as a result of a national search conducted with the assistance of Molloy Partners, executive search consultants. Committee members included Rick Hartt ’70, director of the Rensselaer Union and member of the RAA Board of Directors, who chaired the search committee; Lee Bishop ’60, president of the RAA; Glenn Brown ’54, past president, RAA; Amy Genarini ’03, president of the Red & White student organization; Karen Long, director, enrollment programs; Joyce Kelly Martin, coordinator, alumni relations; Lisa McGrath ’89, director, annual giving; and T. Stillman ‘82, director, management career services in the Lally School.
