| RAA Board Passes Resolution in Opposition to NCAA Proposal
At its Sept. 20 board meeting, the Rensselaer Alumni Association (RAA), led by RAA President Dennis Powers ’63, unanimously passed a resolution in opposition to the NCAA President’s Council’s proposal to eliminate the awarding of athletics aid by Division III member institutions to athletes participating in Division I sports.
“As the body that represents Rensselaer’s alumni population, the board felt it was important to express its view on the NCAA’s proposal.” said Jeffrey Schanz, director of alumni relations. “The resolution expresses the alumni’s firm stance that the elimination of athletic scholarships to our Division I hockey players would jeopardize our hockey program, and hamper the ability of our student-athletes to receive the benefits of a Rensselaer education.”
