Rensselaer Names Renowned Mathematician as Margaret A. Darrin Distinguished Professor in Applied Mathematics

Jong-Shi Pang has joined Rensselaer as the Margaret A. Darrin Distinguished Professor in Applied Mathematics.

In August 2003, Pang received the prestigious George B. Dantzig Prize, the world’s top prize in the area of mathematical programming. The prize is awarded once every three years and is issued jointly by the Mathematical Programming Society and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics. More

Crash Test: NSF Grant Supports Braking Research

A driver avoids colliding with another vehicle. A bird lands on a tree branch. An astronaut docks a spacecraft. These different actions depend on the same skill: the ability to “brake” at the proper force at just the right time.

Armed with a three-year, $295,469 grant from the National Science Foundation, Brett Fajen is researching how most people are able to effectively control vehicles through braking and avoiding collisions. More

Lally School Experts To Discuss the Stock Market’s Performance in 2004

Experts from Rensselaer’s Lally School will examine the stock market by industry and offer in-depth investment analysis in a Wednesday, Oct. 1 seminar titled “Will the Stock Market Recover… And If So, When?”

RAA Board Passes Resolution in Opposition to NCAA Proposal

At its Sept. 20 board meeting, the Rensselaer Alumni Association (RAA), led by RAA President Dennis Powers ’63, unanimously passed a resolution in opposition to the NCAA President’s Council’s proposal to eliminate the awarding of athletics aid by Division III member institutions to athletes participating in Division I sports.
