EMPAC Groundbreaking on Sept. 19
President Shirley Ann Jackson, Rensselaer trustees and administrators, and community leaders will gather to break ground for the new $141.7 million Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC). Honoring Achievement: Alumni Hall of Fame To Induct Newest Honorees
Eight new members will be inducted into Rensselaer’s 2003 Alumni Hall of Fame on Friday, Sept. 19 at a private dinner ceremony at the Heffner Alumni House. They include Howard Isermann ’42, sunscreen developer and Rensselaer trustee; Robert Resnick, world-famous physics educator; J. Christopher Jaffe ’49, international acoustician; Myles Brand ’64, leader in higher education; and Lois Graham ’46, leader in engineering education.

A coordinated effort to stop an NCAA proposal to eliminate the waiver that allows Division III schools sponsoring a Division I sport to offer athletics scholarships was announced Sept. 8 following a meeting of the athletics directors from seven of the eight institutions affected by the proposal. Rensselaer Marks Sept. 11 Anniversary With Solemn Tributes and Forum
Rensselaer marked the anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, with a daylong series of events of remembrance including a ceremonial lowering of the flag at the beginning of the day, a moment of silence at noon and, a public forum in the evening. The ROTC stood vigil throughout the day at the Armory flag. More
