Rensselaer County Legislature Joins Chorus of Opposition to NCAA Rule Change
The Rensselaer County Legislature has joined the growing chorus of opposition to the proposed NCAA rule change that would prohibit Rensselaer from offering athletics scholarships to the mens hockey team.
RPI hockey is an enormous source of pride for the people of Rensselaer County and the Capital District, drawing over three thousand fans a game; thus any effort that detracts from the program will have a direct and negative impact on the economy and the morale of Rensselaer County, according to a resolution introduced by County Legislators Robert Mirch and Martin Reid.
The resolution, adopted on Sept. 9, 2003, urged NCAA officials to defeat any legislation that threatens RPIs ability to continue its proud tradition of mens hockey.
