NSBE/SHPE Career Fair This Week
For the past 24 years the NSBE/SHPE Career Fair
has reigned as one of the largest student-run job fairs in the
nation. This year's Career Fair will be held 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Friday, Oct. 4 and Saturday, Oct. 5 at the Alumni Sports and Recreation
Center (Armory).
The fair is a joint venture between two student
groups the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) and
the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE). Approximately
20 NSBE/SHPE members are in charge of the career fair. Cecilia
Granda '03 and Jessica Benton '04 serve as co-chairs.
"[The career fair] is an event for campus
as well as our members," said Granda. The organizers sought
advice from various outlets on campus including department heads
and Career Development Center staff.
Although fewer employers will attend this year's
fair, both Granda and Benton encourage students to attend, adding
that all the companies in attendance will be hiring for full-time,
summer, and co-op positions.
Friday's companies, totaling 21, will be looking
for management, humanities and social sciences, and information
technology majors; some of the featured employers include AT&T,
Target, and the Marine Corp.
Saturday's employers include Honda, Procter &
Gamble, Johnson & Johnson, and 87 more, searching for engineers
of all kinds. Also on Saturday, GM will display its "concept
car" near their booth in the back of the Armory.
For the full list of employers, see the center
spread in this week's Polytechnic.
