Decoding the Protein
Language
Mohammed Zaki, assistant professor of computer science,
and Chris Bystroff, assistant professor of biology, are
creating a faster, more efficient data-mining technique
to determine basic rules of how proteins form. More
President Holds Town
Meeting
President Shirley Ann Jackson held a campuswide town meeting
on Sept. 18 at which she detailed new research developments,
introduced new faculty and staff, and fielded questions
about new facilities and construction. More
Hajela Receives
Double Honors From ASME
Prabhat Hajela, professor of mechanical, aerospace, and
nuclear engineering, has been named a fellow of the American
Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) as well as a 2003
ASME Congressional Fellow. More

Rensselaer
students, faculty, and staff were treated to free helicopter rides
over campus Sept. 19. The rides were sponsored by U.S. Marine Corps
Officer Programs of Albany and were conducted to let the community
know more about opportunities to serve as Marine Corps officers
and Marine aviators. Captain Mindy Rizer, Marine aviator, piloted
the trips.
