A Day of Remembrance and Community: Rensselaer Campus photos | Hartford photos

To observe the anniversary of last year's terrorist attacks, Rensselaer campus students, faculty, and staff attended a memorial service on Sept. 11 in the Alumni Sports and Recreation Center. Members of the student orchestra provided a solemn backdrop to the event, which featured speakers President Shirley Ann Jackson, Grand Marshal Chris Mather '03, President of the Union Zachary Ament '03, Elizabeth Large, 2002 Pillar of Rensselaer, Graduate Council President Vishnu Priya Tekumalla, and Faculty Senate President Peter Persans. An Interfaith Service of Remembrance followed. Streaming video of both events may be found at http://asms.rpi.edu/.

Members of the Rensselaer at Hartford community gathered at the flagpoles on the grounds of the Hartford campus for a moving ceremony commemorating September 11, 2001. The program included the Presentation of Colors; singing of the National Anthem and America the Beautiful; and remarks by Worth Loomis, professor of faith and public life, Hartford Seminary, and president emeritus, The Hartford Graduate Center; and Alan C. Eckbreth, Ph.D., vice president and dean, Rensselaer at Hartford. A ceremonial candle was lit and the community commemorated the day by planting a dogwood tree, symbolizing the continuity of life.
