Nano-Welding Creates Tiny Junctions

   
 
 

Researchers have discovered how to weld together single-walled carbon nanotubes, pure carbon cylinders with remarkable electronic properties, which could pave the way for controlled fabrication of molecular circuits and nanotube networks.

Pulickel Ajayan, professor of materials science at Rensselaer, and his colleagues in Germany, Mexico, the U.K., and Belgium used irradiation and heat to form the welded junctions. More

Rensselaer has developed an extensive Web site as part of its Neighborhood Renewal Initiative to help students more effectively find decent, affordable housing off campus. Redhawk Shuttle Gets High Marks From Passengers
The Redhawk Shuttle, now in its second official week of service, is A-OK according to a recent rider survey. Carol Wagar says that the several hundred passenger responses received so far have been very positive. The Parking and Transportation Office has incorporated rider suggestions and made modifications to the shuttle service. More

Picture This: Rensselaer Student Helps Design Digital Camera
A Troy company developing a small camera to be worn on the top of one's head is putting the finishing touches on a mock-up of a new design. Niche Ltd., based in the Rensselaer Incubator, plans to get "the Hocker," named after the RPI student who designed the shape of the camera, in stores by the end of the year. Faculty Welcomed
President Shirley Ann Jackson and her husband, Morris Washington, welcomed approximately 150 faculty and guests to a reception at their home Sept. 5. The event helped to kick off the new academic year and allowed current and new faculty members to get to know one another.
