Campus Responds to Terrorist Incidents and Recent Health Concerns

Shortly after the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, the Rensselaer campus responded in an effort to help members of the campus community, support the victims, aid the recovery effort, and protect the security of the Institute and its people.

Resources on the September 11 Terrorist Attacks

The Rensselaer Operation Patriotism committee is sponsoring events from Oct. 29 - Nov. 2 to celebrate America and to raise funds for the Families of Freedom Foundation. These events are detailed in the Campus Events Calendar.

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute has contributed $50,000 to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.
 

An account has been set up at HSBC Bank on campus for monetary donations to the American Red Cross. HSBC will match the donation dollar for dollar up to $1,000 in the bank's effort to raise $1 million.

 

A discussion board has been instituted by Rensselaer's Office of Alumni Relations to allow alumni and Rensselaer community members to communicate about Sept. 11.

 

Joseph Albert, director of RPI’s Counseling Center, discusses coping with grief (Sept. 19, Polytechnic). The Counseling Center, located in the Gallagher Health Center (Infirmary), is available to provide support.

 

In the Sept. 19 Polytechnic Grand Marshal Gil Valadez and President of the Union Ariana Twitchell speak about the tragedy in their columns. Soumeya Benghanem, news coordinator, warns of the dangers of bigotry and prejudice.

The Rensselaer Student Senate met Tuesday, Sept. 11, and passed a resolution for the campus at large to come together in unity and support each other with tolerance and compassion.

Rensselaer community members packed the Chapel + Cultural Center for an afternoon prayer service on Tuesday, Sept. 11. President Jackson and the campus chaplains offered prayers and words of solace.
