Dora
Crouch, professor emerita of architectural history in the
School of Architecture, recently published Traditions in Architecture:
Africa, America, Asia and Oceania. The copiously illustrated
volume is published by Oxford University Press, which published
Crouch's earlier book, Water Management in Ancient Greek Cities.

Mary
Good, Rensselaer trustee, is one of five recipients of the
1999 Heinz Awards. Good received the Heinz Award in Technology,
the Economy, and Employment for "her singular vision in working
to build an economy fueled by scientific knowledge and technological
know-how." Good is a managing member for Venture Capital
Investors. Previously, she served four years as the Under Secretary
for Technology for the Technology Administration in the Department
of Commerce. Good is a member of the National Academy of Engineering,
a past president of the American Chemical Society, a fellow of
the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and a
member of the American Institute of Chemists and the Royal Society

Carlos
Inclan, a lighting design specialist with the Lighting Research
Center, has received the annual Richard Kelly Grant for 2000 from
the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America. A lighting
designer since 1985, Inclan has designed lighting for almost 50
major commercial and residential projects around the world. He
has a degree in architecture from the National Autonomous University
of Mexico, and is working toward a master's degree in lighting
from the LRC. 9/18/00
Roger
Grice, clinical assistant professor of technical communication,
was elected to Lambda Chi Alpha International Fraternity's prestigious
Order of Merit, the highest achievement the international fraternity
offers for alumni volunteer service. Grice has served as a chapter
adviser to Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity at Rensselaer since 1995,
and has been involved with the chapter at his alma mater, Polytechnic
University in Brooklyn, since 1965. Additionally, he currently
serves as chairman of the Leadership Committee to the Greek Relationship
Statement Task Force, and is an honorary initiate of the Order
of Omega Greek Honor Society. 9/18/00
Chip
Lawrence '67 has received the 2000 Mitchell Prize. Lawrence
and co-authors Andrew Neuwald (Cold Spring Harbor Labs) and Jun
Liu (Stanford Univ.) were recognized for their paper in the Journal
of the American Statistical Association, "Markovian Structures
in Biological Sequence Alignments," (March 1999). The Mitchell
Prize is awarded in recognition of an outstanding paper that describes
how a Bayesian analysis has solved an important applied problem.

Chjan
Lim, associate professor of math, has been named a visiting
professor at National University of Singapore. He will be working
on new applications of dynamical systems theory, and on applications
of the Monte-Carlo method to statistical mechanics of fluid turbulence.
