| Major National Institutes of Health Grant Awarded to Rensselaer To Further Research on Healing Bone Injuries |

George Plopper, assistant professor of biology, has been awarded a four-year, $2.6 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to continue research into the development of what Plopper refers to as bone spackle, an engineered tissue that may one day be used to help bone injuries heal faster and stronger.
Ploppers work may lead to breakthroughs in the treatment of bone injuries and breaks, hip and knee replacements, and arthritis. More

Dining Services Switches to Fair Trade, Organic Coffee
In response to student suggestions, Rensselaer Dining Services, run by Sodexho Campus Services, has begun serving Fair Trade, certified organic shade-grown coffee in the dining halls and coffee carts on campus. The move is part of Sodexhos commitment to introduce socially and environmentally sensitive food to the campus community in keeping with their adoption of the Global Sullivan Principles. More
