Fall Fest 2002 |
Fall Fest is a free communiversity event for students, faculty, staff, and the neighboring community. This year, Fall Fest coincides with Family Weekend 2003, so the families and friends of students on campus for the weekend also will be able to attend. The festival, which will take place from 1 to 6 p.m. at 15th St. at Sage Avenue (outside of the Rensselaer Union), celebrates autumn by bringing together the Rensselaer community and the neighborhoods surrounding the university for an afternoon of music, entertainment, food, crafts, and childrens activities.
By hosting Fall Fest, Rensselaer celebrates three main things: the beginning of autumn, a new semester, and, perhaps most importantly, the universitys partnership with the city of Troy, said Cynthia Smith, assistant dean in the Office of the First-Year Experience, and coordinator of Fall Fest. This year, were going to have a huge variety of entertainment and activities for people of all ages, so anyone including parents, grandparents, siblings, whoever is welcome to attend. It will be an incredibly fun day for everyone, I guarantee it.
Nik & the Nice Guys and the U.S. Continental Army Jazz Band, along with Rensselaer singing groups the Rensselyrics, Rusty Pipes, and the Campus Serenaders, will all provide music for the event. The Troy High School Booster Club will sell food and refreshments. Area businesses and community organizations will also participate. Childrens entertainment and activities will include clowns, a caricaturist, face painters, games, origami, a petting zoo, and a puppet show.
Free shuttle service to and from designated Fall Fest parking lots will be provided. For more information, click on the Web site at http://www.rpi.edu/fye/special.html.
