William D. (B.C.) Cahill, Rensselaers women's hockey coach, died suddenly on Oct. 5. He was 53. Cahill was entering his fourth season as Rensselaer's women's hockey coach. He also had served seven years as an assistant coach with the men's Division I program.
Born in Worcester, Mass., Cahill was a graduate of St. Peter's High School where he was a hockey standout from 1965 through 1969 and was later inducted into the school's Guardian Hall of Fame. He went on to Norwich University where he played hockey and graduated in 1973. He later returned to Norwich as its first graduate to coach the school's hockey team. He also coached at Assumption College in Worcester.
He was a true gentleman in every sense of the word, said Ken Ralph, Rensselaer athletics director. He had a real way of being genuine. He was a fantastic teacher.
Cahill is survived by his parents, two brothers, and four sisters. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Let's Go Red-Women's Hockey, RPI, Alumni Sports and Recreation Center, 110 Eighth St., Troy, NY 12180-9987.
