Student Senate Holds Student Life Forum
The Student Life Committee of Rensselaer's Student
Senate convened its first forum of the year Oct. 23. Approximately
50 students, administrators, and members of the Senate attended
the gathering to explore public safety, the Red Hawk Shuttle,
and campus parking issues.
The forum explored the need for improved
lighting, aggressive public safety patrols in darker areas
of campus, hand straps for Red Hawk shuttle riders, access
for students to academic facilities after business hours,
bus scheduling, and parking for students during the day.

The evening kicked off with an overview of the
department of public safety given by Lt. Joseph Audino, who briefly
touched on all of public safety's programs, policies, and relationship
with the city of Troy.
Anna Batorsky '04, a member of the Student Life
Committee, introduced the meeting's focus to student concerns.
The forum explored the need for improved lighting, aggressive
public safety patrols in darker areas of campus, hand straps for
Red Hawk shuttle riders, access for students to academic facilities
after business hours, bus scheduling, and parking for students
during the day. Audino and the department's director, Bernard
Drobnicki, reminded the students, staff, and faculty to take advantage
of the protective and preventative services like safe escorts
at night that the department provides.
The next Student Life Forum will be held in November
to coincide with the development and finalization of the Student
Life performance plan. The date will be announced later.
