Families Visit Campus This Weekend
Family Weekend 2002 — an annual weekend set aside for students and their families to enjoy all the Rensselaer community has to offer-begins Friday.

"Family Weekend is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the campus, Troy, and the surrounding community, and the people and activities that make Rensselaer such an exciting place to be," said Lisa Trahan, dean of the first-year experience.

The weekend will include Honors Convocation, musical performances, a scenic tour of Troy, a welcome address from President Jackson, academic open houses and demonstrations, family-style buffet dinners, and more.

Families can enjoy "Pops Night with the Rensselaer Music Association," featuring the Jazz Ensemble, Campus Serenaders, Rensselyrics, and the Rusty Pipes, Friday at 7 p.m. in the McNeil Room of the Union.

Saturday's events feature an update from President Jackson on current initiatives under way on campus; academic demos and exhibits; dinner, and more musical entertainment. An interactive performance by "mind-bending" entertainers the Evasons begins at 8 p.m. in West Hall Auditorium.

Researchers in Eye-Tracking Technology
A group is being formed for Rensselaer researchers interested in eye-tracking technology. According to Wayne Gray, professor of cognitive science, "eye tracking is emerging as the technology of choice in a number of domains. An organized special-interest group on this technology may help Rensselaer leverage our individual interests and expertise in this field to gain a competitive edge in obtaining private and government funding for our efforts."

Those interested should contact either Qiang Ji in electrical, computer, and systems engineering at qji@ecse.rpi.edu or Wayne Gray at grayw@rpi.edu. 10/28/02
