Within the next two weeks, Rensselaer will begin
to expand various pedestrian walkways across campus to provide
better access for emergency vehicles. The project, expected to
be completed by Nov. 15, is mandated by the City of Troy Fire
Department.
The work will include widening the pathway leading
under the pedestrian bridge by the Low Center for Industrial Innovation
and the Greene Building. In addition, the pathway will be widened
around the '86 Field to connect to the existing paved roads in
front of the Troy Building and Sage Avenue. The roadway north
of the Jonsson-Rowland Science Center and the pedestrian path
on the south side of campus that connects the Voorhees Computing
Center to the Folsom Library also will be widened.
Temporary closures are expected, but most will
not last more than a day. Alternative routes will be clearly visible
and mostly will require pedestrians to walk around the immediate
area of the closed-off sections.
