Kimberly-Clark Donates Patents for Tissue Engineering Technology

Kimberly-Clark Worldwide has donated two U.S. patents to Rensselaer. The technology is key in the manufacture of microbial cellulose, which holds great promise in the tissue engineering industry. Rensselaer will own the patents outright, as well as any foreign equivalents that result. The amount of the patents is undisclosed. More

Podowski Named Fellow of American Nuclear Society

Michael Podowski, professor of nuclear engineering and engineering physics, has been elected a fellow of the American Nuclear Society (ANS). The honor recognizes distinguished contributions in the field of nuclear science and engineering, and is the highest membership grade offered by the ANS. More

Dvorak Receives Drucker Medal From ASME

George Dvorak, professor of mechanics, was honored by ASME International (The American Society of Mechanical Engineers) with its Daniel C. Drucker Medal, for his research achievements in plasticity, material fracture and fatigue, and thermal-mechanics of heterogeneous materials. More

Dudley Observatory Celebrates 150 Years

The Dudley Observatory is celebrating its 150th anniversary, beginning with an exhibit and lecture series in the Nott Memorial at Union College in Schenectady. The exhibit, "Reaching for the Stars: The Story of the Dudley Observatory," will open on Sunday, Oct. 20, with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. in Nott Memorial. More

Rensselaer Speeds MEA Production

Rensselaer has found the answer to producing membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs) — the vital core of fuel cells — quickly and accurately. By automating the process of putting together gasket, electrode, and proton exchange membrane materials, the School of Engineering's Flexible Manufacturing Center (FMC) can create MEAs at least 10 times faster than a human can, and at levels of accuracy that are otherwise impossible to achieve. More

Fall Fest
The Rensselaer community gathered on Eighth Street Oct. 5 for Fall Fest, a free "communiversity" event featuring music, demonstrations, children's entertainment, and more. Hartford Reception
Hartford faculty and staff formally welcomed Alan Eckbreth, the new vice president and dean of Rensselaer at Hartford, at a reception on Thursday, Oct. 10, in the Seminar Hall area. President Jackson and her leadership team also took part in the welcome event.
