David Bohan '82 and Terri Van Patten have been
promoted to positions as assistant vice presidents in Institute
Advancement. Bohan will serve as assistant vice president for
advancement strategy, services, and infrastructure. Van Patten
will serve as assistant vice president for development and alumni
relations. The announcements were made by Vice President for Institute
Advancement David Haviland '64, who last week announced the appointment
of Jane Van Ryan as assistant vice president for communications.
"Terri Van Patten and David Bohan bring extraordinary
energy, creativity, and drive to their work," said Haviland.
"The Institute, and its advancement programs, have accomplished
a great deal in the past three years. We have achieved a steep
upward slope. With Dave, Terri, and Jane Van Ryan, we have a senior
leadership team who will take us to the next level."
Bohan will be responsible for developing strategies
to support customer service and information needs within Institute
Advancement. Such needs include deepening relationships with individual
and corporate donors through effective information services, events,
and integrated communication.
Van Patten will lead the next capital campaign,
focused on The Rensselaer Plan and committed to securing the highest
possible levels of support for Institute priorities. Van Patten's
responsibilities will also include overseeing the offices of alumn
relations, annual and individual giving, and corporate, foundation,
and international advancement.
Bohan earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical
engineering from Rensselaer in 1982 and an MBA from the Lally
School in 1998. He joined the Institute in 1989 as assistant director
of development for corporate and foundation relations. He later
served as assistant director for major gifts before becoming marketing
director of the Institute's MBA program. Until this promotion,
Bohan served as director of alumni relations, a position he held
since 1998.
Van Patten is a summa cum laude graduate of the
University of Minnesota, Duluth, with a bachelor's degree in applied
science. She joined Rensselaer in 1987 as assistant director of
development for regional programs. Since then she has served as
a major gifts officer and has led the offices of advancement services,
annual programs, information systems, and regional advancement.
From 1999 until her latest promotion, Van Patten served as director
of individual gifts and gift planning.
Haviland announced that Jeffrey Schanz will serve
as the acting director of alumni relations during the search for
a permanent director. For the past two years Schanz has served
as associate director of alumni relations. He previously served
as director of alumni affairs and as an adjunct faculty member
in communications at Marist College, where he earned bachelor's
and master's degrees in political science and public administration.
