John H. MarburgerThe Honorable John H. Marburger III, science adviser to President George W. Bush and director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), met with students, faculty, staff, and others from the Rensselaer community along with business and government leaders from the Capital Region during a visit to Rensselaer on Nov. 14.

“RPI has a long history of collaboration with government, industries, and other universities for regional development,” Marburger said.

Marburger and Presdient Jackson“New York state has a long history of encouraging regional economic development linked to its outstanding research institutions,” Marburger said. “I was proud to participate in those efforts in the past, and look forward to helping in the future.”

As science adviser and head of the OSTP, Marburger provides scientific and technological analysis to the President on major policies, plans, and programs of the federal government. In addition to his work with the OSTP, Marburger co-chairs the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology and supports the President’s National Science and Technology Council.

Marburger’s remarks were delivered at the first Rensselaer Presidential Lecture. His lecture was titled “National Priorities in Science and Technology Policy.”

“The Presidential Lectures have been established to bring to Rensselaer and the Capital Region the very best and most influential of our nation’s thinkers and leaders in contemporary science, technology, research, education, and policy,” President Shirley Ann Jackson said. “Bridging the worlds of government, science, education, and policy at their highest levels, Dr. Marburger is the most appropriate expert to launch this prestigious lecture series.”
