The Bold Women, Big Ideas seminar is sponsored by the Severino Center for Technological Entrepreneurship at Rensselaers Lally School, and will be free and open to the public. The forum is designed to encourage women to embark on entrepreneurial careers, according to Denis Fred Simon, dean of Rensselaers Lally School.
As the number of high-profile, successful women entrepreneurs continues to grow, more and more women today are thinking of following in their footsteps and launching their own companies, said Simon. The Women in Entrepreneurship Seminar will help them strategize about such practical issues as finding venture funding and starting a business in a challenging economic climate, and it also will help them set, design, and refine their business objectives. Most critically, we hope the day will provide some real inspiration for women about to take the entrepreneurial plunge.
Koplovitz, the events keynote speaker, will discuss todays business environment for women-owned companies. Tracy Egan, anchorwoman for the Albany-area ABC television affiliate WTEN, will moderate the event.
Also scheduled is a panel discussion focusing on funding for women-owned start-up businesses. Panelists include Nina Tyzik, district executive and senior vice president of HSBC Bank USA; Jennifer Tegan, executive manager at Cayuga Venture Fund II; and Claire Wadlington, partner and CFO of FA Technology Ventures.
